Meet Anne!
Anne Fauver began representing District 6 on the Atlanta City Council in 2002 and is now serving her second term. She brought to City Council a wealth of business and volunteer experience developed throughout her career.
Anne was a financial advisor, an administrator in the Atlanta Public Schools, a real estate broker and a small business owner. Along the way she garnered numerous professional designations and awards. Education, neighborhoods and responsible financial management-these have been constant threads throughout her professional life.
But it is perhaps most of all in her volunteer efforts that Anne demonstrates the values that are most important to her. In the 1970s the issue was neighborhood preservation against the encroachment of highways, and Anne supported saving the Olmstead Parks along Ponce de Leon Avenue. During the same period she started the Symphony for Tots program with Robert Shaw and worked to bring the arts to Atlantas school children.
In the 80s the issue was AIDS, and Anne rolled up her sleeves and worked alongside a network of Atlantas healthcare providers. She served as the founding chair of ARCA (AIDS Consortium of Atlanta) and helped create one of the first non-profit, community-based research centers in the United States.
Then Anne turned her attention to children at risk-lobbying for the rights of child victims of prostitution. The result of these efforts was a new state law making child prostitution a felony. Anne also served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for DFACS children.
At the time of her election to City Council, Anne was serving as a member of the Atlanta Urban Design Commission, and she is proud that during her term the designations of historic homes doubled. Both Grant Park and the Atlanta portion of Druid Hills became historic districts. She is now helping Atkins Park, a portion of Virginia Highland and properties on the Beltline get historic designations.
As a result of her extensive experience with community organizations and governmental agencies, Anne understands what it takes to make the system work for citizens. She has brought that understanding to the City Council and to her service on numerous committees. She chaired the committee that authored the new ethics code and the task force that reviewed the liquor license laws. She has served on the following committees: Zoning, Finance, Public Safety, Transportation, Committee on Council and City Utilities. One of Annes strengths is to attract very qualified people for her projects. An example is her very competent council staff. District 6 is extremely fortunate to have Sheila Parrott. Sheila Parrott has been with Council for 16 years. She knows where to go to get help and answers for constituents.
A graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, Anne earned a masters degree in journalism from Michigan State University and studied at the New York Institute of Finance.
No biography of Anne Fauver would be complete without mention of her miniature schnauzer Annie who shares, and fiercely guards, Annes home in Morningside.
