City Departments

The City of Atlanta is comprised of thirteen distinct departments. When an issue arises, knowing who to call can be difficult and frustrating. In our Common Requests section, we feature answers to topics that are frequently addressed in district six. Aviation – General Manager Benjamin DeCosta
The City of Atlanta ’s Aviation Department operates the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport , the busiest passenger airport in the world.

Corrections – Chief Thomas J. Pocock
The Department of Corrections manages the City’s correctional institutions and provides correctional programs to reintegrate offenders into the community.

Finance – CFO Janice Davis
The Department of Finance manages and accounts for the City’s financial resources as wells as providing legislative support to the Finance/Executive Committee of the City Council.

Fire – Acting Chief Harold Miller
The Atlanta Fire Department promotes and creates a safe environment under the direction of Fire Chief Dennis L. Rubin.

Human Resources – Commissioner Benita Ransom
The Department of Human Resources attracts, retains, and develops the City of Atlanta workforce to ensure the City’s business needs are being met and that a high level of customer service is delivered.

Information Technology – Interim CIO Mark Campbell
The Department of Information Technology aligns proper IT solutions with the needs of city government.

Law – City Attorney Elizabeth Chandler
Provides legal services to the City of Atlanta under City Attorney, Linda DiSantis.

Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs – Commissioner Dianne Harnell-Cohen
Operates and maintains City of Atlanta parks, recreation, and cultural affairs. The department seeks to provide a safe and enriching environment.

Planning & Community Development – Commissioner Steven Cover
Provides comprehensive citywide economic development and neighborhood revitalization that assures a high quality of life for all of Atlanta 's citizens.

Police – Chief Richard Pennington
The Police Department seeks to create a safe and secure environment by enforcing the laws, exercising regulatory authority, and preserving the peace while protecting the rights of the citizens.

Procurement – Chief Procurement Officer Adam Smith
Handles the purchasing functions for the City while promoting equity, fairness, and economic inclusion.

Public Works – Commissioner David E. Scott
The Department of Public Works provides transportation and solid waste services to the citizens of Atlanta to maintain and improve the infrastructure and physical environment of the City. 

Watershed Management – Commissioner Robert Hunter
The Department of Watershed Management provides clean, safe, and affordable drinking water and wastewater and stormwater collection and treatment to the City of Atlanta residents, businesses, and wholesale customers.
